Gazebo, Aquatorium
make Monongahela Unique
Each community in the Mon-Valley has something that sets
it apart from the others. For Monongahela, the gazebo in
Chess Park and the aquatorium are trademarks. The gazebo
is the site for numerous events, including weddings, park
festivals, Flag Day ceremonies and concerts.

The gazebo was recently renamed after the late mayor of
Monongahela, John Moreschi. Mayor Moreschi had the distinction
of being called the "marrying mayor" as he had
performed over 300 marriages with the majority of these
at the gazebo.
The Noble J. Dick Aquatorium became a reality in 1969 as
part of the Monongahela Area 200th Anniversary Celebration.
At the time, it cost $125,000 and was part of the neighborhood
Assistance Act. Since that time, the aquatorium has become
the place for many celebrations, such as the Fourth of July
fireworks and many festivals and concerts.

Thousands of people from throughout the Valley visit the
outdoor riverside area. Fishing, walking or just gazing
out at the river are among the popular pastimes at the aquatorium.
The aquatorium has a seating capacity of nearly 4,000 and
is the only one of its kind in the Valley. It has a stage
of approximately 75 feet by 300 feet.
A great deal of work goes into the upkeep of the aquatorium,
but the results are appreciated by many. Not only is the
open-air stage used by individuals to enjoy a relaxing evening,
but also by local community organizations for fairs and
festivals. It's the site for the annual fireman's carnival
each year and the staging area

for participants in the Halloween Parade to congregate
following the event.
During the winter months, when the aquatorium is blanketed
under a soft mantle of snow, people enjoy clearing off a
part of the seats to enjoy the sunshine and crisp air.
For a unique angle on the Monongahela River, for a pleasant
afternoon of fishing, or to attend a fun event, stop by
the aquatorium, which is a credit to those who had the foresight
to construct the facility.
